Working as Durham Spray Paints, Lewis Hobson has created some of the region’s largest and most renowned murals
His background is in graffiti art, which he became interested in at 13. His experience underpins his approach to art, valuing street art as means to engage with hard to reach groups and those who do not consider themselves artists.
Lewis specialises in large scale murals, community engagement, workshops and project management.
FEATURED PROJECT:
Headland Mural Trail
The Headland mural trail came about organically. It began with an initial painting but soon led to more commissions after speaking to business owners while in the area. The more time Lewis spent on the Headland, the more he got to know and love it. This meant that the murals are all informed by local history - stories passed on by people he met while painting.
There are now ten different murals within walking distance of each other, which have become nationally recognised.
